Careers | Buying Assistant
Have you ever wondered how the discount retailers manage to stock the well known brands at a bargain price? How the online prices can differ so much to the same product available in stores?
In the lively and competitive FMCG arena, Pricecheck has long established relationships with many brand owners and major suppliers, sourcing key branded lines which we then sell on to a range of different outlets. We understand business – we buy and sell quality product, whilst appreciating the market and getting to know exactly what our customers want. This simple and driven approach has seen us develop trade in over 80 countries as we continue to explore new categories, markets and territories.
And we’re getting it right too – we were awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, High Growth Business of the Year at the Sheffield Business Awards 2017 and Export Business of the Year in 2015 as well as being recognised in The Sunday Times International Track 200.
We buy thousands of product lines across all FMCG categories – we never know where our next partnership will take us, making for a fast paced, diverse and exciting place to work. As Pricecheck continues to grow, so do our employees and we’re on the lookout for a Buying Assistant to join our team.
What you’ll be doing
Working within the Buying team, you will be providing administrative support to ensure that the Buyers are best placed to focus on trading and making the most of the deals being made. This analytical role helps to provide structure and routine to the team, through a mixture of scheduled tasks and also providing ad hoc support and cover to your partnered Buyers. In this fast paced role, you will assist in analysing stock offers through data analysis and store visits, preparing attractive presentations to offer out new purchases to the sales team and assist the Buyers in their meeting preparation. You are the link between the buzz of buying, to the systems and processes that ensure that the stock arrives with us as expected, therefore approaching activities with care, consideration yet urgency.
How you’ll do it
Following an in depth induction where you will spend time with all areas of the business, you will be working with the Buying team and the Buying Operations Manager in getting to know our systems, suppliers, products and industry as part of your on the job training.
You will be a confident and articulate communicator, with the ability to follow instruction but also use your initiative to question and seek out better ways of doing things. You will be technically minded and problem solver, adept at running and reading reports to put actions into place. You will be eager to learn, with a keen eye for detail but appreciation for the bigger picture and long term strategy. You will be organised, thorough and conscientious, becoming an integral and trusted member of the team.
What we’re looking for
With so much going on, you need to be sharp, smart with an eagerness to learn. Degree level achievements and strong A level results (or the associated equivalent) would be desirable, but we look for more than just academic achievements of our team. Given the nature of the role, you must be confident in working with data in Microsoft Excel and also comfortable using standard and bespoke software. Show us that you have entrepreneurial spirit, an interest in trading and a passion for product - we would love to hear more from you.
As we trade internationally, we’re keen to hear from people who have language skills or experience of living and working overseas but these are not essential.
What’s in it for you
Along with a competitive starting salary, you will be enrolled into our pension scheme and also the Westfield health cash plan, with the option to benefit from our childcare voucher and Cycle to Work scheme if that is something that interests you. Given you will learn the product list inside and out, it’s only fair that you can benefit from the staff discount too!
Whilst long established, Pricecheck are continuing to grow and we want a certain kind of person to grow with us too. If you join us with a solid work ethic and clear ambition, you are willing to work hard, push yourself and show enthusiasm, progression opportunities at Pricecheck are a plenty.
