National Candy Month - are your following the trends which will lead to sweet success
June marked National Candy Month – whilst this may be a predominately American campaign, we thought it presented a brilliant chance to celebrate what is a £1,742m industry* in the UK.
It’s no secret that the entire industry is evolving. As we become much more of a health-conscious nation, sugar-free, vegan and low-calorie alternatives to our traditional staples will continue to grow.
In line with this movement is the growing popularity of sharing bags, as consumers look to enjoy sweet treats as part of a varied diet, with resealable bags making portion control more accessible.
There’s no doubt that sugar confectionery will always remain a popular household item with four in five consumers admitting to eating a sweet treat in the three months to October 2018*.
Given the many trends, changing market and ultimately the variety of products, we’re proud to stock thousands of confectionery items at Pricecheck; from quintessential British brands such as Bassett’s to global leaders like Nestle.
To give you an idea, we’ve selected our three favourite candy brands below:
- Rowntrees. Part of the Nestle family, Rowntrees’ range of Jelly Tots, Fruit Pastilles, and Randoms have become regular items in homes since the 1800s. Rowntrees was one of only two leading sweet brands to see both value and volume sales growth in the 12 months leading to October 2018*.
- Chupa Chups. Since 1958 Chupa Chups has been a firm favourite with younger audiences and now comes in more than 100 flavours, it’s no surprise the brand has become a global leader in the lollipop market.
- Maynards Bassetts. One for the adults as its classic range of Wine Gums, Liquorice Allsorts and Jelly Babies have been a family favourite for generations. The brand stems right back to 1880’s London so it has truly stood the test of time when it comes to the changing consumer market.
